Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a criminal camp in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area. The operation, carried out early on December 24, 2024, led to the recovery of 19 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and disrupted a dangerous criminal network.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the raid in a statement on Wednesday. He explained that the operation involved the Nigeria Police Force, the military, civil defence, and local vigilante operatives. Acting on credible intelligence, the team stormed the camp, destroyed makeshift structures, and injured fleeing suspects, some of whom escaped with bullet wounds.
The raid followed weeks of intelligence gathering and information from recent arrests. Security forces acted swiftly to neutralize the camp, which posed a serious threat to public safety during the festive season. The recovered IEDs underscore the severity of the group’s activities.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, praised the cooperation between security agencies and the public. He highlighted the importance of such collaboration in keeping Anambra State safe. He urged hospital operators to report anyone seeking treatment for bullet wounds or other suspicious injuries to the nearest police station.
“This measure is crucial for tracking fleeing suspects and preventing further criminal acts,” CP Itam said. He assured residents that the police remain committed to maintaining security through regular patrols and targeted operations.
The raid brings relief to the community, especially during the festive period when security concerns are heightened. The police have encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
With enhanced security efforts, Anambra residents can look forward to a safer and more peaceful holiday season.
