New details have emerged regarding the final moments of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, as the coroner’s inquest into his d£ath continues in Ikorodu, Lagos. In a gripping testimony, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered medical treatment to the singer on the day he passed away, detailed the events leading up to his tragic demise.
Ogedengbe told the court that she was contacted on September 12, 2024, by Ayobami Sodiq, popularly known as Spending, to treat Mohbad at his residence in Lekki. Upon her arrival at approximately 2:30 p.m., she noticed a swollen cut on his right hand and proceeded to administer a tetanus sh°t to his upper arm. Due to Mohbad’s history of ulcers, she opted for paracetamol instead of diclofenac and further administered a diluted 4ml dose before injecting a slow 10ml dose of ceftriaxone, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections.
However, the moment the ceftriaxone injection was administered, Mohbad began experiencing severe reactions. According to Ogedengbe, he started vomiting and developed goosebumps. Alarmed by his condition, she quickly alerted his wife, Omowunmi, who reportedly assured her that this was his usual reaction to injections. In an attempt to calm him, Omowunmi took Mohbad to the bathroom and poured water over his head.
Realizing the situation was worsening, Ogedengbe and Sodiq rushed out to purchase additional medication from a pharmacy, but delays hindered their efforts. Upon their return, they found Mohbad outside, preparing to be transported to a hospital. However, due to the lack of an available vehicle and the heavy traffic at the time, the singer was instead taken to the hospital on a motorcycle. Tragically, he was pronounced d£ad on arrival.
Ogedengbe further testified that upon reaching the hospital, medical personnel hesitated to provide treatment, leading to significant confusion. His body was eventually returned home by 8 p.m., while Ogedengbe and others proceeded to the police station to obtain a d£ath certificate.
The case has sparked widespread public interest and controversy, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the singer’s d£ath. As the investigation continues, the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has announced that both Ogedengbe and Sodiq will face legal action for reckless and negligent acts. However, popular musician Naira Marley, promoter Sam Larry, and other individuals previously linked to the case have been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The next hearing is set for March 21, and the coroner’s findings are expected to shed further light on the events leading up to Mohbad’s untimely d£ath. The Nigerian music industry and fans across the globe continue to mourn the loss of the young artist, whose sudden passing remains a subject of heated debate.
