The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MCBAN) has confirmed the killing of its Katsina State acting Chairman, Alhaji Amadu Surajo, by suspected bandits on Saturday night. The attack, which occurred in Mai Rana village in the Kusada Local Government Area, also led to the deaths of three other individuals and left several others injured. The assailants kidnapped two of Surajo’s wives and his daughter, an undergraduate, before releasing Surajo’s first wife.
Surajo had only served as acting Chairman for three months, following the mysterious disappearance of the previous Chairman, Munnir Lamido, in June 2024. Lamido’s disappearance remains unsolved, and the recent attack has raised fears that leaders of the association are being targeted by criminals.
MCBAN National President Baba Ngelzarma has called for greater protection for the association’s members, who have been repeatedly targeted by gunmen in various states, including Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, and Katsina. The authorities have yet to provide a full report, though security forces have been deployed to restore peace in the area.
