Armed bandits launched a violent attack on Domar Gidan Sule community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving three people dead while looting several houses and rustling a large number of livestock. The attack, which occurred late Sunday night, has raised fresh concerns about the rising insecurity in the region.
The incident was confirmed by a security analyst known as Bakatsine, who shared details of the attack on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday. In his post, he revealed that the bandits stormed the community under the cover of night, unleashing terror on residents. According to him, the assailants not only took lives but also carted away valuable possessions from several homes and drove off with a significant number of livestock.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, arrived in large numbers and moved from house to house, forcing their way into homes and taking whatever they could find. Residents described the scene as chaotic and terrifying, as gunshots echoed throughout the community, causing panic among families who fled into nearby bushes for safety. Many who narrowly escaped the onslaught returned to find their homes ransacked and their means of livelihood stolen.
The community remains in shock following the killings, with family members mourning the loss of their loved ones. Local sources say the victims were ordinary residents who had no known conflicts with the bandits, adding to the fear that no one is safe from these increasingly brazen attacks. The stolen livestock, which includes cattle, sheep, and goats, represents a significant financial loss for the affected households, many of whom rely on livestock farming for survival.
In a similar incident, bandits also attacked the Rimaye community under Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday. Although details of the Rimaye attack remain sketchy, reports indicate that the assailants inflicted further harm on residents and caused widespread fear. The frequency of these attacks has heightened concerns about the deteriorating security situation in rural areas of Katsina State, where communities remain vulnerable to violent raids.
Residents are calling on the government and security agencies to intensify their efforts to curb the rising wave of banditry. Many believe that the absence of a prompt and coordinated security response has emboldened the criminals, allowing them to operate with impunity. The lack of immediate intervention has left affected communities feeling abandoned and helpless in the face of relentless violence.
As of the time of filing this report, security forces had not released any official statement regarding the attacks. There is growing pressure on the government to address the worsening security crisis and provide adequate protection for rural communities that are increasingly becoming targets for bandit groups.
Katsina State, like several other regions in northern Nigeria, has been grappling with persistent insecurity caused by banditry, kidnappings, and other criminal activities. Despite various government initiatives to combat the menace, the problem continues to escalate, with bandits frequently targeting remote villages where security presence is limited.
The Domar Gidan Sule and Rimaye attacks have once again highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive strategy to tackle banditry and protect the lives and property of Nigerian citizens. Until meaningful action is taken, communities across the region remain at the mercy of armed groups, living in constant fear of the next attack.
