The Borno State Government has issued a firm ban on street hawking and illegal activities in Maiduguri. The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) announced this decision, citing the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002.
The board’s General Manager, Limán Mustapha, explained that the ban includes the operation of tricycles, generator repairs near the Post Office and Monday Market, and the sale of engine oil on road reserves. It also prohibits activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts, as well as the dumping of sand and building materials.
The state also banned mixing cement on roads and constructing boreholes by roadsides. Mustapha stressed that all those affected must vacate the sites immediately.
Defaulters will face arrest and prosecution. The government aims to ensure a cleaner, safer, and more organized urban environment in Maiduguri.
The board urged residents and businesses to comply with the new regulations to avoid legal action. The government’s message is clear: take action now or face consequences.
