Former Ghanaian international, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, has called on the Black Galaxies to leave no stone unturned in their quest for victory against Nigeria in the second leg of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.
The two West African rivals played to a tense 0-0 draw in the first leg on Sunday, leaving the tie wide open. The Black Galaxies now face the critical task of either defeating their opponents outright or securing a score draw to book their spot in CHAN 2024.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Agyemang-Badu emphasized the importance of adopting an aggressive and attacking mindset, warning against a defensive approach that could jeopardize their qualification hopes.
We should be very careful not to go and defend, Agyemang-Badu said. This is only one game, and when you lose, you are not going anywhere. We can’t do that because, mind you, we didn’t qualify for the [2025] Africa Cup of Nations.
Highlighting the broader implications of failing to secure a spot in CHAN 2024, he added, If the CHAN too, we don’t qualify, then there will be a little bit of disaster. So, we will support them, pray for them, and urge the Galaxies to go all out and win the game for us in the return leg.
The Black Galaxies, Ghana’s home-based national team, face immense pressure to deliver, especially after the senior national team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The upcoming fixture against Nigeria represents an opportunity to restore pride and bolster the nation’s footballing reputation.
With the return leg just days away, all eyes will be on the team as they aim to capitalize on home advantage and secure their place in the prestigious CHAN tournament.
