Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has explained why young striker Marc Guiu has struggled to secure regular playing time in the Premier League, citing the impressive form of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku. Despite Guiu’s standout performances, including a sensational hat-trick in Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League, Maresca acknowledged that the competition for spots in attack has been fierce.
Following Guiu’s impressive showing at Stamford Bridge, Maresca emphasized that the 2006-born forward has a promising future ahead, having already netted six goals. However, with Jackson and Nkunku currently performing at a high level, Guiu’s opportunities have been limited. “He’s just unlucky,” Maresca said, noting the positive contributions from both Jackson and Nkunku in the current Chelsea lineup.
Maresca further highlighted the young age of Guiu, stressing that with continued hard work, he has the potential to break into the team more regularly. When asked about the possibility of a January loan move for the player, Maresca remained non-committal, stating that they would “see what happens.” As Chelsea continues to juggle a wealth of attacking talent, the future of Guiu remains uncertain, but his recent performances in Europe have surely put him on the radar for more opportunities.
