The Upper Area Court I in Ilorin, Kwara State, has officially dismissed a criminal complaint suit filed against popular Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Elizabeth Anjorin, widely known as Lizzy Anjorin. The ruling marks the end of a contentious legal battle that had drawn widespread public attention, with allegations and counter-allegations between the parties involved. The case, which was centered around a dispute involving Saheed Mosadoluwa, popularly known as Ibile, and Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited, saw intense legal exchanges between the complainant and the defense team representing Anjorin.
The actress, who had been at the center of the lawsuit, faced legal proceedings that raised serious questions about the nature of the charges brought against her. Representing the complainant was legal counsel A. M. Abdulraheem, while Anjorin’s defense was handled by a team of experienced lawyers, including Prof. O. Y. Abdulhamid, I. M. Adedo, Taofeeq Olateju, and Abdullahi. The case took an unexpected turn when the Attorney General’s office intervened, taking over the matter and subsequently filing for its termination. This legal maneuver played a crucial role in determining the final outcome of the case.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, the presiding judge, Yunus Kayode, ruled in favor of the Attorney General’s application, leading to the dismissal of both the initial complaint filed on February 26, 2025, and the counter-complaint filed on March 11, 2025. In his judgment, the court declared that after careful consideration of the submissions from both the complainant’s counsel and the defense team, along with the application from the Attorney General to assume control of the case and seek its termination, the court had decided that the criminal complaint against Anjorin could not stand. The judge ruled that the direct complaint dated February 24, 2025, as well as the cross-complaint filed on March 11, 2025, were both terminated and that the defendants were discharged from the case.
Speaking in an exclusive interview after the ruling, Lizzy Anjorin expressed relief and satisfaction over the outcome of the case, describing it as a “cross-suit” where both she and the complainant ultimately became defendants. She revealed that the legal dispute was initially rooted in a land matter in Lagos but had been taken to a different dimension when the complainant filed a criminal suit against her in Ilorin, Kwara State. The actress explained that she honored the court’s summons on Friday and presented her evidence before counter-suing the complainant. As a result of her counter-action, both parties were designated as defendants in the matter. She further revealed that when the court sought to proceed with the counter-case filed against the complainant, she opted to withdraw it, signaling her intention to move forward from the legal confrontation.
Lizzy Anjorin emphasized that the lawsuit had taken an unnecessary turn and was ultimately resolved in a manner that affirmed her position. She expressed gratitude to her legal team for their unwavering support, as well as to her fans and well-wishers who stood by her throughout the legal ordeal. She acknowledged the judicial system in Ilorin for handling the matter with fairness and professionalism, ensuring that justice prevailed. Her acquittal has been met with celebration from her supporters, particularly within the Nigerian entertainment industry, where high-profile legal battles often make headlines.
The dismissal of the case now allows Lizzy Anjorin to put the legal turbulence behind her and focus on her entertainment and business ventures. The outcome of the case has further fueled discussions about the use of the legal system in personal and business disputes, particularly in cases involving public figures. The actress, known for her outspoken nature, has made it clear that she remains undeterred by the challenges she has faced and is determined to continue building her career and brand without distractions.
