The $350 million Grand Litora Railway project in Cross River State has reached a major milestone with the presentation of the topographical mapping for the first 104 km of the Calabar-Ugep route. This achievement, confirmed by Rinehooke Investment Ltd, signifies the project’s steady progress.
The mapping was unveiled at the Tinapa Free Zone Resort, reinforcing the commitment of both Cross River State and Rinehooke Ltd to ensuring the railway’s successful completion. The groundbreaking ceremony for the 365 km railway line, designed to connect major cities in the state, was held earlier this year, with Governor Bassey Otu presiding.
Nelson Elemi, CEO of Rinehook Investment Ltd, highlighted the transformative potential of the Grand Litora Railway, emphasizing its ability to revolutionize tourism and stimulate regional development. The railway will improve mobility, trade, and showcase Cross River’s unique tourism destinations, including Tinapa Free Trade Zone and Obudu’s mountain resort.
The railway project will connect Calabar and Obudu with substations at Ugep, Ikom, and Ogoja, further enhancing accessibility and boosting the local economy.
