Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has affirmed that he retains the full backing of the club’s board despite the team’s recent struggles in the Premier League. The defending champions currently sit seventh on the table ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Everton.
After 17 games, City finds themselves four points adrift of fourth-placed Nottingham Forest and trailing fifth-placed Bournemouth by a single point. Despite the dip in form, Guardiola insists that his relationship with the board remains strong, reminiscent of the support he received during his challenging first season at the club.
Speaking ahead of the game, Guardiola said, Every week we talk. I feel incredibly supported. We behaved like in the first season maybe, but it was completely different. We both know it: when there’s a moment something wrong happens, then we are going to take decisions. I feel incredibly supported by him.
He praised the unwavering backing of chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, as well as key figures like Director of Football Txiki Begiristain and CEO Ferran Soriano. Of course from Txiki and Ferran but especially Khaldoon in those terms, Guardiola added.
City’s performance this season has raised questions about their consistency, but Guardiola’s comments suggest a united front within the club’s leadership as they aim to regain their dominance in the league.
