Former Italy and Juventus legend Fabio Cannavaro has landed his next managerial role with Croatian powerhouse Dinamo Zagreb, just months after parting ways with Serie A side Udinese. The renowned ex-defender, who has previously managed clubs such as Benevento, Al Nassr, and Guangzhou Evergrande, will take charge of Dinamo on January 3, replacing Nenad Bjelica.
Cannavaro inherits a team currently sitting third in the Croatian league, seven points adrift of league leaders Rijeka and Hajduk Split. With Dinamo Zagreb’s recent performances falling short of expectations, the club will be looking to the 2006 World Cup-winning captain to guide them back to the top of Croatian football.
The decision to appoint Cannavaro was confirmed by the club’s Executive Board after a meeting on Sunday night. A statement from Dinamo read, Fabio Cannavaro is the new coach of the first team of GNK Dinamo. The decision was supported by the club president and the Executive Board during the 15th session of the Executive Board. He will officially join the first team on January 3 and be presented to the public.
As Cannavaro embarks on this new challenge, all eyes will be on him to revitalize a squad with the potential to return to glory in both domestic and European competitions.
