In a disturbing turn of events, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police have uncovered a dangerous arsenal of weapons following a shooting incident at the Najob Guest House in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja on December 26, 2024.
The incident began when police were called to the scene and discovered 29-year-old Andrew Philemon, critically injured from gunshot wounds. He had been shot by 33-year-old Obinna Nwigwe, who claims that the shooting occurred during a heated argument between the two men. Nwigwe asserted that he acted in self-defense after the altercation escalated.
Upon investigation, police seized a troubling collection of weapons from Nwigwe’s residence. The cache included five dane guns, an English-made single barrel, an AK47 magazine containing 29 rounds of live ammunition, four live cartridges, and seventeen expanded cartridges. Additionally, police found a bow with arrows, various knives, a sword stick, a toy gun, a taser, and a bulletproof jacket, as well as multiple sets of police uniforms and boots.
Andrew Philemon is currently receiving treatment for his injuries at the National Hospital in Abuja, while Nwigwe is expected to face charges once the ongoing investigation concludes.
The discovery of such a large quantity of weapons has raised serious concerns about the potential for violence in the region. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation into the incident to determine the full extent of Nwigwe’s activities and whether he was involved in any illegal arms trafficking or other criminal activities.
This case highlights the need for greater vigilance in curbing gun violence and regulating the possession of dangerous weapons in the country.
