The Federal Government has committed N15 billion to the dualization of the Benin-Akure-Ilesha road, a key infrastructure project spanning 150.7 kilometers. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Works’ budget under the proposed N49.74 trillion 2025 budget.
The project will be carried out in two phases. Phase I involves the rehabilitation of the existing Benin-Akure road, while Phase II will add a new lane to the current carriageway. This allocation is part of the broader infrastructure focus in the 2025 Federal Government Budget, which includes significant funding for other crucial road projects.
The 2025 budget also sets aside N15 billion for the rehabilitation of failed sections of the Bauchi-Jigawa state border road, aimed at improving transportation links in the region. Other notable allocations include N11 billion for the reconstruction of the Shagamu-Ore road and N10.45 billion for the dualization of the Akure-Ilesha road.
In addition, N9 billion has been earmarked for the construction of the Ukana-Ikot-Ntuen road in Akwa Ibom state, and N8 billion for the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Abeokuta road. Other projects include the construction of the Abak-Ekparakwa-Ete-Ikot-Abasi highway and the Ugep road in Cross River state, with investments totaling billions.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, had previously announced that the government would focus on completing four key road projects per geopolitical zone in 2025, due to economic challenges like inflation and the removal of fuel subsidies. However, the 2025 budget also includes allocations for several new infrastructure projects, signaling a comprehensive approach to infrastructure development.
