PE Energy Limited, a leading energy services company, has introduced an innovative technology known as Multi-phase Pump and Systems to tackle gas flaring and enhance oil production in Nigeria.
The technology was unveiled in Lagos during an oil and gas seminar organized by PE Energy Limited in partnership with ITT Bornemann GmbH. The event, themed ‘Eliminating Gas Flaring and Reducing CAPEX in Production Fields; A Sustainable Approach’, aimed to promote sustainable energy practices within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Daere Akobo, Chairman of PANA Holdings and Group CEO of PE Energy Limited, emphasized that the seminar was designed to introduce oil and gas exploration companies to this groundbreaking technology. According to him, the system can significantly reduce carbon and methane emissions, boost operational efficiency through increased oil production, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s net zero emission targets.
Dr. Akobo highlighted that deploying the Multi-phase Pump and Systems will not only foster environmental protection but also improve the social well-being of communities. It aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s policy on methane emission reduction and will help lower the cost of oil production. He urged stakeholders to prioritize addressing gas flaring, which remains a major environmental concern in Nigeria.
Commending past and current administrations for developing the National Gas Policy 2020, Akobo noted that the policy has been instrumental in promoting the shift from flaring gas to capturing and commercializing it.
In his remarks, Mr. Jeroen Olde Monnickhoff, Global Product Manager for Oil & Gas at ITT Bornemann GmbH, explained the significance of the new technology. He noted that the Multi-phase Pump and System plays a critical role in reducing routine gas flaring in upstream operations while simultaneously enhancing oil production.
Monnickhoff explained that the system works by capturing gas, boosting it downstream to production facilities, and reducing air pressure, which leads to increased oil output. He also shared that the technology has been successfully deployed in various global markets, delivering outstanding results for oil and gas companies worldwide.
He encouraged industry players to adopt the technology, emphasizing its advantages over gas flaring, not only in avoiding regulatory penalties but also in mitigating the health risks associated with flared gas emissions.
