Catholic missionary priest, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has addressed the controversy surrounding the suspension of Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe, stating that the marriage was not secret but publicly conducted. Fr. Ugwu, who works in Gambia, took to his official Facebook page to clarify the situation following reports that Fr. Oghenerukevwe was suspended by the Catholic Diocese of Warri after his alleged secret wedding in the United States.
Fr. Ugwu stated that Fr. Oghenerukevwe had previously expressed his desire to leave the priesthood and had initiated the proper procedures to resign, though he went ahead with his wedding to his partner, Dora Chichah, before the process was completed.
He further emphasized that no priest is forced to continue in the priesthood and that there are procedures to be followed if a priest chooses to leave. Fr. Ugwu urged the public to be cautious of misleading headlines regarding the matter, asserting that the wedding was not a secret affair.
