The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has sought the collaboration of the Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Alfred Achebe, to promote road safety and reduce traffic accidents during the festive season. This came after a courtesy visit by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, to the monarch on Saturday.
In the meeting, Commander Alexander expressed her gratitude to Igwe Achebe for his continued support of the FRSC in the state. She emphasized the importance of collaborating with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, to achieve the mission of reducing road traffic crashes and creating a safe motoring environment.
As part of the FRSC’s public safety campaign, Alexander highlighted the significance of public enlightenment efforts, especially during the Yuletide season. She appealed to the Igwe to advocate for road safety within his community, using the 2024 Ember months safety campaign slogan, Speak up against dangerous driving: Crashes kill more passengers than drivers, as a focal point.
In response, Igwe Achebe welcomed the Sector Commander and acknowledged her role as the 15th FRSC Sector Commander in Anambra. He stressed the need for better public education for drivers, particularly targeting fleet operators to ensure accountability for unsafe driving practices. The monarch also assured Alexander of his support and pledged to facilitate future meetings with traditional leaders to further discuss road safety initiatives.
The Igwe concluded by wishing the Sector Commander a successful and impactful tenure, aimed at benefiting the people of Anambra during the upcoming festive period.
