The 2024 Headies Awards is set to be one of the most competitive yet, as the organisers have unveiled the official nominations list for its 17th edition. Leading this year’s nominations is Tochukwu Ojogwu, better known as Odumodublvck, who secured an impressive five nominations, reflecting his meteoric rise and dominance in the rap and Afro-fusion scene. Hot on his heels are Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, and Crown Uzama, professionally known as Shallipopi, each earning three nominations. Odumodublvck’s influence extends further, as he is also in the running for Best Collaboration, where he will compete against industry heavyweights like Chike, Wizkid, Zlatan, Asa, and Tiwa Savage.
One of the most emotional moments of this year’s nominations is the posthumous recognition of Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, who tragically passed away on September 12, 2023. His enduring legacy in the Nigerian music industry has been acknowledged with three nominations, reaffirming his influence and lasting impact on fans and fellow musicians alike.
The 2024 Headies will once again highlight the growing global appeal of Afrobeats, street-hop, and other genres originating from Nigeria.
