Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has officially signed into law a budget of N750,282,200,000 for the 2025 fiscal year, marking a significant step in his administration’s efforts to improve infrastructure and public services in the state. The budget, which was recently passed by the Abia State House of Assembly, received the governor’s assent on Friday, and he expressed gratitude to the lawmakers for their swift and thorough deliberation of the appropriation bill.
Governor Otti praised the assembly for its diligence in scrutinizing the budget, acknowledging that their collaboration has laid a solid foundation for his administration’s goals. He emphasized that the 2025 budget would empower his government to continue delivering vital services and infrastructural developments aimed at transforming Abia State. Noting that the state had been historically regarded as one of the dirtiest in Nigeria, Otti assured that his administration’s efforts were already yielding positive changes, with significant improvements in sanitation and public order.
A major highlight of the budget is the allocation of 82 percent to capital expenditure, which reflects the governor’s commitment to improving the state’s infrastructure, while 18 percent will be dedicated to recurrent expenditure, including the regular payment of pensions and the implementation of the new national minimum wage. Despite financial challenges, Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s focus on ensuring that the state moves away from its past struggles and thrives through strategic investments in both infrastructure and human capital.
The governor also highlighted key projects that were initiated in 2023 and are expected to be completed in 2025, including the rehabilitation of key roads such as Port Harcourt Road in Aba, Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road, and Okobo-Abam Road. Additionally, the state will see the completion of several crucial infrastructure projects like the Omenuko Bridge, Nunya Road, and new hospitals and schools designed to uplift the lives of Abia residents.
Governor Otti’s strategic vision for Abia State, as outlined in the 2025 budget, promises not only to boost the state’s economy but also to elevate the quality of life for its citizens. With a firm focus on sustainable growth and development, his administration is setting the stage for a brighter, more prosperous future for Abia.
