Police in Lagos have arrested a security guard after the car of a medical doctor, Kehinde Fadairo, was stolen from an estate in Ago Okota. The incident occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning, leaving residents questioning the estate’s security.
Dr. Fadairo explained that he parked his car within the estate on Sunday and discovered it missing the next day. Alarmed, he informed the estate authorities and the Chief Security Officer (CSO), who immediately interrogated the guard on duty.
The guard admitted opening the gate for individuals who drove the car out. He claimed he did not confirm their identities. This revelation left the doctor and estate officials stunned.
“I parked my car and went to bed,” Fadairo said. “By morning, it was gone. The guard admitted opening the gate for unknown people who took my car. Despite the security features I installed, it’s shocking this could happen.”
Efforts to reach Lagos Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin for comments were unsuccessful. However, a senior police officer familiar with the case confirmed the guard’s arrest but declined to give further details.
The incident raises concerns about lapses in estate security. It follows similar thefts, including a recent case in Ogun State, where a private driver stole an SUV from his employer under false pretenses.
Residents are now calling for stricter measures and better accountability to prevent such breaches. Investigations into the case continue, with the guard remaining in police custody.
