Nollywood actress Kiitan Bukola has candidly shared her deep-seated fears about marriage, revealing how her childhood experiences and personal expectations shape her outlook on relationships and family life.
Speaking during the latest episode of the Talk to B podcast, Bukola recounted her struggles growing up without experiencing the love and care of a father. She explained that her apprehension about marriage stems from her desire to provide her children with the stable and loving home she never had.
I don’t have a father who cared how I wanted it. Like, I didn’t enjoy the love of father to mother together. It hurts me a lot, Bukola said, adding that she never lived with both parents. She disclosed that she has a large family and doesn’t even know some of her father’s 14 children.
Her fears are compounded by the contrasting experiences of her friends. I have friends who have been through a lot in their marriages. And I have some that have enjoyed it. I don’t want to have children out of wedlock. I want my children to experience fatherly care, she said.
While expressing her love for the idea of marriage, Bukola admitted her concerns about finding the right partner who understands her career and values. I love marriage, but I’m scared of it at the same time. I don’t want my children to grow up without fatherly care, or in a separate home, she noted.
She described her ideal partner as someone prayerful, understanding, and supportive. My ideal man is very understanding and prayerful. I don’t want stress. I want someone I can call my best friend. Someone who will understand the difference between my job and our home.
Bukola also shared a past experience with an ex who objected to her career commitments, even asking her to return money for a job. I once dated someone who would tell me to return money for a job on a day I’m supposed to go to set, she revealed.
The actress had announced her engagement in November 2022, but the relationship ended just two months later due to allegations of infidelity. Her revelations offer a glimpse into the personal challenges she continues to navigate as she seeks love, stability, and fulfillment in both her career and personal life.
