ISWAP terrorists have ambushed Nigerian Army troops in Borno State, killing five soldiers in a deadly attack on January 4. The assault occurred in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area, sparking a two-hour firefight. The gunmen overwhelmed the troops, resulting in casualties and the destruction of military equipment.
In response to the growing threat, the Nigerian Air Force, as part of Operation Hadin Kai, launched airstrikes on ISWAP strongholds in the Timbuktu Triangle, an area known for its tough terrain and strategic importance to the insurgents. The targeted airstrikes successfully dismantled several ISWAP positions, neutralizing a significant number of terrorists. Additionally, air operations were carried out against Boko Haram factions in the Gwoza axis of the Mandara mountains, targeting groups loyal to notorious commander Ali Ngulde.
This attack highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerian security forces in the fight against insurgents in the region. Despite these setbacks, military efforts continue to disrupt insurgent operations and weaken their networks.
