Iwobi Matches Kanu, Yakubu’s Historic Feat

Alex Iwobi made history in Fulham’s 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town, becoming the fifth African player to make 50+ Premier League appearances for three different teams.

The Super Eagles midfielder joined the ranks of Nigerian legends Nwankwo Kanu and Yakubu, alongside Senegal’s El Hadji Diouf and Mohamed Diamé.

The match also saw a unique Premier League record, with Fulham and Ipswich scoring penalties just two minutes apart (69th and 71st minutes). This marked the shortest gap between penalty goals in a single half since 2006-07, according to Opta.

Iwobi has had an impressive season, with eight goal contributions in 20 appearances, becoming Nigeria’s all-time Premier League assist leader earlier this season, surpassing Kanu.

Having spent 15 years at Arsenal, Iwobi moved to Everton for £35 million before joining Fulham in 2023. He has made 55 appearances for Fulham, scoring 11 goals and assisting five times.

With this draw, Fulham remains four points from the top six in the Premier League standings.
