Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has revealed that she was a victim of rape five times in her life. Speaking candidly on the ‘Talk to B’ podcast, Ojo shared her personal ordeal and reaffirmed her unflinching stance against sexual violence.
Ojo expressed no tolerance for rape, emphasizing that she would stand firmly against it regardless of who the perpetrator is. I do not care who the person is, even if the person is my son, I’m going to come for him unapologetically, she stated.
Reflecting on her childhood, Ojo shared the pain of growing up with her grandmother and being separated from her mother for seven years. She also revealed the impact of her father’s struggles with alcohol and drugs, which deeply affected their family dynamics.
In addition to her personal trauma, Ojo spoke out against the prevalence of rape apologists in society. I discovered we have a lot of rape apologists, she said, urging for greater accountability and support for survivors.
Her courageous disclosure shines a light on the importance of confronting and addressing rape culture while supporting survivors unapologetically.
