Murtala Sule Garo, former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in Kano State, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing feud between two influential figures, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The former allies-turned-rivals have been in a bitter conflict since 2016, with their discord now threatening the development of Kano State.
Speaking at a meeting with former members of the 8th and 9th Kano State House of Assembly, Garo urged both leaders to put aside their differences for the sake of the state’s progress. He pointed out that while other states, such as Zamfara, have been able to unite their former leaders to discuss development, Kano’s situation is marked by a political impasse that has hindered any meaningful dialogue.
It is painful to see that in a state like Zamfara, which lags behind Kano in many areas, former governors are able to come together and strategize for their state’s future, Garo lamented. But here in Kano, our leaders cannot even meet to address the issues that will drive our state’s development forward.
In his heartfelt plea, Garo emphasized the need for unity among Kano’s political leaders. He stated, If they truly care about the state, they must reconcile and focus on its development. The future of Kano depends on the cooperation of its leaders.
As the state grapples with political divisions, Garo’s call for reconciliation echoes the sentiment of many who believe that unity is essential for tackling the challenges facing Kano.
