The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Kelvin Izekor for allegedly killing his wife, Success Izekor. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday in the Upper Mission Extension area of Benin City, causing outrage among residents.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, the suspect was apprehended while being attacked by an angry mob. The police intervention reportedly saved Izekor from being lynched as tempers flared over the gruesome killing.
Yamu explained that operatives from the Aduwawa Division arrived at the scene and discovered the lifeless body of Success Izekor lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her head. The sight of the deceased further fueled the anger of the crowd, making it difficult for officers to rescue the suspect.
“It took serious efforts by the police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation,” Yamu said.
The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital by the police, but medical personnel confirmed she was already dead. The authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, assuring the public that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents of the area, with many expressing shock and outrage over the killing. Community members have called on law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and swift justice for the deceased.
Cases of domestic violence resulting in fatalities have been on the rise in recent years, raising alarms about the need for stronger legal action and support systems for victims. The police have urged the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed without interference, emphasizing their commitment to delivering justice.
As the investigation continues, the Edo State Police Command reassured the public that the suspect will be held accountable if found guilty.
