The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted a suspected terrorist courier carrying Improvised Explosive Device (IED)-making materials intended for an attack on troops’ location. The suspect was arrested at the entrance to Gubio Local Government Area in Borno State on Thursday.
The suspect, 28-year-old Murktar Alhaji Chari, confessed to transporting the materials to Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area for a planned attack on MNJTF troops. The intercepted materials included cylinders, gas canisters, pressure regulators, and a hose, all intended for a terrorist group planning a retaliatory strike after recent losses.
MNJTF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba confirmed that the operation disrupted the attack and significantly weakened the terrorist group. The suspect is now in custody, assisting with investigations.
Force Commander MNJTF Major General Ibrahim Ali praised the troops and CJTF for their professionalism, reaffirming the MNJTF’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring regional security.
