The Borno State Government has distributed N18.08 billion to 101,330 families affected by recent flooding in the state. This announcement was made during the final report presentation by the flood relief distribution committee to Governor Babagana Zulum at the Government House in Maiduguri.
The committee’s chairman, Bukar Gujibawu, revealed that the funds covered cash assistance, food, and non-food items. The committee received a total of N28.2 billion, which included contributions from the federal and state governments, corporate organizations, and private donors, with the Borno State Government contributing N10 billion.
The distribution included N987 million for 7,716 traders, N313 million for 814 worship centers, N213 million for 267 private schools, and N89.4 million for 1,788 youths involved during the flood. In addition, N12.5 million was allocated to 22 private clinics.
The committee recommended using the remaining N4.45 billion to rehabilitate roads in flood-hit areas, such as Gongulong and Old Maiduguri roads. The remaining food and non-food items will be distributed to host communities affected by the disaster.
Governor Zulum assured the committee that their recommendations would be implemented, including the activation of a permanent disaster response structure at the state emergency management agency. He also directed the reconstruction of flood-damaged roads and the proper capture of street names and house numbers for better emergency management.
Governor Zulum praised the committee’s efforts and thanked the Federal Government for its support in alleviating the impact of the flooding.
