The Niger State Government has warned farmers in certain communities to avoid their farms due to the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by bandits. The warning follows previous attacks, including the killing of 13 farmers in Alawa community in August 2024.
State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Bello Abdullahi, issued the alert during the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities in Minna. He emphasized that the military needs to clear the affected areas of mines before locals can safely resume their activities.
Abdullahi, representing Governor Mohammed Bago, highlighted the increasing threat posed by terrorists using IEDs to target civilians. He assured the public that the military was working diligently to address the issue, with the aim of securing Shiroro and other affected areas.
The commander of the 013 Quick Response Force, Austine Idoko, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to combatting terrorism and banditry in the region, guided by the Chief of Air Staff.
