Nigerian Customs Seizes Goods Worth ₦229.1 Million in Ogun State

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 Command, has announced a major operation resulting in the seizure of illegal goods valued at ₦229,112,424 within just seven days. The operation, conducted at various locations across Ogun State, highlights the NCS’s commitment to combating smuggling and protecting the Nigerian economy.

The operation, led by the new Area Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu, involved strategic surveillance, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with patriotic Nigerians.

    • Idi-Iroko
    • Ilaro
    • All-round Axis
    • Obada Oko
    • Abule Kazeem-Abeokuta Axis
    • Imeko-Afon

These areas are considered smuggling hotspots within the state.

Items Seized

The seized goods, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦229.1 million, include:

  • Food Products:
    • 2,169 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each).
  • Drugs:
    • 1,128 parcels of hemp weighing 1,109kg.
  • Clothing and Footwear:
    • 21 bales and 2 sacks of used clothes.
    • 4,360 cartons of imported shoes.
  • Tyres and Fuel:
    • 166 pieces of pneumatic tyres.
    • 250 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
  • Vehicles:
    • 20 vehicles used for smuggling operations.
    • One foreign-used 2012 Toyota Highlander SUV.

Statement from Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu

Comptroller Shuaibu emphasized the impact of smuggling on Nigeria’s economy and local industries:

“Our operatives remain resolute in dismantling the smuggling networks that undermine our economy, endanger lives, and hinder local industries. The command will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to rid our society of this menace.”
