The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun State has announced the extension of the service year for 39 corps members from the 2024 Batch A Stream 1. This decision was revealed during the passing-out ceremony and disengagement of the corps members on Thursday in Osogbo.
Agbor Ndoma Obim, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, disclosed that while a total of 2,252 corps members from the 2024 Batch A Stream 1 successfully completed their service year, 40 corps members had absconded from service. He stressed that the 39 corps members who were sanctioned with extended service had violated various regulations, though the specific infractions were not disclosed.
In his address, Agbor lauded the corps members for their dedication to the core values of the NYSC scheme, which include unity and national integration. He noted that their contributions in key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure had positively impacted their host communities.
“You have done well in promoting unity and national integration throughout your service year. Your dedication to your primary assignments and community development has been commendable,” Agbor said. He encouraged the corps members to continue exemplifying good citizenship as they transition to the next phase of their lives.
The NYSC State Coordinator also acknowledged the involvement of 1,073 male and 1,179 female corps members in the service year. As the outgoing corps members prepare to embark on new journeys, Bamgboye Paul, the monitoring officer from Abuja, praised their hard work and commitment, urging them to carry forward the lessons of patriotism and community spirit in their future endeavors.
