Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu has decided to stay at Southampton, opting to turn a new chapter under the leadership of new manager Ivan Juric.
Onuachu, who had previously contemplated leaving the club, reflected on his turbulent season in an interview with the Daily Echo. It’s been an up-and-down season, he admitted. First of all, we were talking about transferring and leaving the team. It didn’t happen. I kept working hard and believing in myself.
The Nigerian striker credited former manager Russell Martin for reigniting his confidence. Russell Martin saw I had potential and started including me. He started to believe in me. He gave me some chances, and I think I executed them very well. Now we are here, Onuachu said.
Despite initial frustrations, including limited playing time and doubts about his role at the club, Onuachu maintained a professional attitude. I just wanted to leave and go where I could play more, he revealed. But I don’t care if I’m training with the B team, C team, or by myself. I give everything when I am training, whether that is with one coach, two coaches, or three coaches.
Now, under Ivan Juric’s guidance, Onuachu is eager to solidify his place in the squad and contribute meaningfully to Southampton’s campaign. Fans will hope his determination translates into strong performances on the pitch as the club navigates the challenges of the season ahead.
