The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has dismissed reports circulating that its National President, Emeka Rollas, was arrested and detained by the police in Umuahia, Abia State. The guild described the claims as baseless and malicious.
According to AGN spokesperson, Cornel Udofia, the guild clarified that Rollas was not arrested but had gone to the police station to make a complaint. The rumors of his arrest stem from a misunderstanding regarding an issue within the Abia State chapter of the AGN.
In the statement, the guild explained that the conflict in Abia began in 2024 when a group of disgruntled members, led by David Amalaha, allegedly hijacked the chapter through an illegal election, bypassing the national body. As a result, the Abia chapter has been governed by an interim leadership, pending the resolution of the matter in court.
The statement further revealed that Rollas was in Abia to mourn the passing of his mother-in-law and took the opportunity to attend the AGN Abia chapter’s meeting, held on January 9, 2025. His attendance was intended to encourage participation from all members and address the ongoing issues within the chapter.
AGN reiterated that the news of his arrest was false and called for an end to such misleading reports.
