Patrick Doyle, a Nigerian media personality and former husband of actress Ireti Doyle, has criticized socialite Sophia Egbueje over her recent display of luxury following allegations of a sexual relationship with singer Burna Boy.
Last week, social media was abuzz after an audio recording surfaced online where Sophia reportedly detailed her intimate relationship with Burna Boy. In the leaked conversation, she claimed that the Grammy award-winning singer had promised to buy her a Lamborghini, which he allegedly failed to deliver. Shortly after the recording went viral, Sophia took to her social media to flaunt a white Lamborghini, declaring that she purchased the luxury vehicle without the singer’s help.
Reacting to the development on his Facebook page, Patrick Doyle condemned Sophia’s display of wealth. He pointed out how she had not only boasted about the value of her wristwatch but also showcased a car reportedly worth N600 million. Doyle expressed his disappointment at the reactions of some social media users who congratulated her despite the allegations surrounding her means of livelihood.
“She boasted about the value of her wristwatch and flaunted a 600 million Naira car. The combined value of both items is in the range of 650 to 750 million Naira. Some half-wits were impressed and effusively congratulated her as she smiled and flaunted both items, as if we hadn’t heard about her shameful means of livelihood,” Doyle wrote.
He further criticized the culture of glorifying questionable lifestyles, stating that some members of Sophia’s extended family might be struggling financially while she spends lavishly. Doyle described the romanticizing of “iniquity” as a trend among those he referred to as “dim-wits.”
Doyle’s comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting his views while others argue that Sophia has the right to spend her money as she pleases.
This is not the first time Patrick Doyle has spoken out against public figures involved in controversies. Months earlier, he had sent a message to men, warning them about publicly engaging in social media battles with their former partners. At the time, he recounted how a close friend had responded publicly to a humiliation by his ex-wife, a move Doyle disapproved of.
In 2023, Doyle also weighed in on the marital drama involving Davido’s logistics manager, Isreal DMW. He criticized men who engage in public confrontations with women they have shared intimate relationships with, describing such actions as a sign of a “low-life” mentality.
