Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has taken to social media to express his frustration after the government sealed his newly constructed, yet uncompleted building and hotel for alleged illegal development without an approval permit.

In an emotional post on Instagram, Portable, who has consistently used his platform to help others, claimed that over 20 artists, customers, and even his staff were detained during the raid, which also saw several vehicles, motorcycles, and personal belongings—including phones—being seized. According to Portable, the government’s actions were unfair, especially considering how he has been a vocal advocate for public services and infrastructure improvements in his community.

Portable highlighted that the building was meant to serve as a venue for booking events and shows, and not merely for selling drinks, as authorities may have presumed. He also emphasized that he had been using the property to promote local talent and support individuals, aligning himself with community development efforts.

In his Instagram post, Portable, who believes deeply in his faith, declared his trust in God, saying, “I believe in Eledumare, nobody can fall me, Ọmọ Olohun.” He also voiced his concern over the injustice of the situation, explaining how the local government, which he had assisted with public services such as street lighting and road repairs, had now turned against him.

“I am using this place to book events and shows, not just selling drinks,” he continued. “I am promoting people and helping people here. Government should ask, I put light everywhere, and before they came for road repair, I called them to help us. Why will they do this to my property that I am using to feed my family?”

Portable’s grievances were compounded by his past efforts to help improve the community. Just a few months earlier, he had posted a video on social media showing him using a tractor to repair the dilapidated roads in Sango-Ota. In August, he had also criticized Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for the state of the roads, after a bad stretch nearly caused an accident involving his Range Rover. He even urged the governor to step down if he couldn’t fulfill his duty to fix the roads.

Following that incident, Portable claimed he was compensated with N2 million by the state government, which he said was a direct result of his bold callout. Additionally, the governor allegedly promised to fix the roads in the area, which Portable later verified by visiting the ongoing road repairs on the Atan-Lusada-Agabara stretch.

While Portable has always been known for his outspoken nature, this incident has sparked a larger conversation about the relationship between local governments and the people who contribute to the growth of their communities, often at the risk of their own resources.
