Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s global perception is undergoing a positive shift, thanks to the economic reforms and initiatives led by President Bola Tinubu. Speaking at the 2025 Lagos Annual Thanksgiving Service, themed “Harvest of Thanksgiving,” Governor Sanwo-Olu credited these reforms for improving the nation’s standing on the world stage.

He acknowledged the challenges faced in 2024 but highlighted the importance of the tough decisions made, particularly the long-overdue economic reforms that have set the foundation for a prosperous future. While the governor admitted that these reforms have caused short-term difficulties for many Nigerians, he assured the public that the long-term benefits would soon be felt.

“We are already seeing the emerging shoots of the positive outcomes of these reforms. The harvest that awaits us as Nigerians, following our many sacrifices and perseverance, will be a very gratifying one,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated.

He pointed to Nigeria’s growing public revenues, improving macroeconomic stability, and the positive effects on job creation, investments, and social welfare. The governor also highlighted the country’s stock market performance, with the All-Share Index closing above 100,000, and emphasized Lagos’ infrastructure achievements, such as the Red Line and the upcoming Blue Line projects.

Sanwo-Olu also noted the substantial return of Nigerians from the diaspora, particularly to Lagos, underscoring the economic and cultural potential this migration represents. He celebrated private sector milestones, such as the start of petrol production at the Dangote Refinery and the groundbreaking of the 12,000-seat Lagos Arena, promising a boost to Nigeria’s arts and entertainment sector.

With these advancements, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his confidence that Nigeria’s future is bright, and the country’s global image will continue to improve in the years ahead.
