Seven people, including two police officers and two civilians, were killed in a clash between hoodlums and security operatives in Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State. The attack occurred early on Monday at a burial preparation site, where the assailants began shooting at the venue.
Eyewitnesses report that the gunmen may have been targeting the ceremony in response to a demand for approval before any burial can take place. The attackers exchanged gunfire with security officers stationed nearby, resulting in casualties, including innocent bystanders.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident, with Commissioner Nnaghe Itam directing a manhunt for the assailants. While the attackers fled, one victim was rescued and is receiving treatment. The Commissioner visited the scene and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police have assured the public of continued efforts to ensure safety in the area and prevent further violence.
