The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old suspected ritualist, Taiwo Yemitan, after discovering a fresh human head and dismembered body parts in his residence in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta. The chilling incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting calls for heightened vigilance and swift justice.
The arrest, confirmed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, occurred early Sunday morning at Yemitan’s home behind Atinsola petrol station in Sanni. Acting on a tip-off from local security outfits, the Agbekoya and vigilante operatives, police apprehended the suspect at 1:40 a.m.
During interrogation, Yemitan confessed to luring the victim, identified as Darasimi, to his residence with the intention of killing her. He admitted to the murder and implicated two accomplices, Kehinde Yemitan and another individual named Kazeem, whose full identity remains unknown. According to the police, the trio planned to sell the victim’s head and other body parts.
The dismembered body of the victim has been taken to the general hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, for a post-mortem examination as investigators work to unravel the gruesome crime further. Efforts are underway to locate the victim’s relatives and bring the accomplices to justice.
The police spokesperson assured the public that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a comprehensive investigation. She urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities.
