The Sports Journalists Forum (SJF) has launched a new empowerment initiative to support members with professional and business needs. This programme, marking the group’s 7th anniversary, offers grants to sports journalists running small businesses or with entrepreneurial ideas.
Molade Oketoki and Ajunwa Julian each received N200,000 grants, while Esther Pushe was awarded N100,000. SJF aims to provide more than just financial support but to help members grow sustainable businesses. Group Administrator Godwin Enakhena stressed the need for collective support to enable sports journalists to achieve their entrepreneurial potential.
Enakhena emphasized that the initiative focuses not only on financial aid but also on career growth and building valuable partnerships. In 2025, the empowerment programme will prioritize professional development. Enitan Obadina, Advanced Editor – Sports at Opera News, will lead the research and self-development section, starting in the first quarter of 2025.
The event also honored 11 members for their exceptional contributions. Winners received N50,000, a certificate, and a football jersey of their choice. Emmanuel Joseph was awarded the first ‘Personal Development’ category prize.
The end-of-year celebration took place at Sinatra Place in Ikeja, Lagos, on December 21, with a lively turnout of sports journalists. The event featured food, drinks, and a spirited atmosphere, marking a new chapter for SJF members as they continue to innovate and push for progress in the industry.
