A Sokoto State Community Guard Corps operative tragically shot and killed himself due to an accidental discharge shortly after participating in a joint operation that rescued 66 kidnap victims. The operation, led by the army, took place on Monday at Tidibali Forest in the eastern part of the state.
Confirming the incident, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, explained that the operative was handling his firearm when it mistakenly discharged, fatally injuring him. He died shortly after the incident.
Despite the tragedy, the ongoing operation, which has been funded by the state government, has seen considerable successes, including the rescue of 66 victims and the elimination of several bandits. The operation is part of the state’s efforts to combat banditry and rid the region of criminal elements.
