Stan Alieke, lawyer for controversial rapper Speed Darlington, has accused Burna Boy of using his power to keep his client in detention, despite a court ruling for his release. In an interview with Saturday Beats, Alieke claimed the police were acting based on emotions, not the law.
“There are powerful people involved in this case. On one side, we have Burna Boy, and on the other, the police seem to be influenced by sentiment,” Alieke said. He insisted that once a court gives a ruling, it must be followed. He also pointed out that if Burna Boy feels defamed, he should go to court, not use his connections to keep Akpi in jail.
Alieke explained that the case had not yet been fully heard in court. “It was only charged to court in November,” he said. He described a meeting where Burna Boy’s lawyer demanded Akpi stop making videos about him and issue an apology. Alieke confirmed he had already drafted the apology.
The lawyer also raised concerns about Akpi’s health. “He’s unwell, and the police are not treating him right,” Alieke stated. “His family is heartbroken and calls me every night. I saw Akpi two days ago and insisted the police take him to the hospital. He hasn’t been eating because they haven’t fed him.”
These allegations have raised eyebrows, as many wonder whether Burna Boy’s influence will continue to interfere with the legal process.
