Stakeholders Laud USAID State2State’s Impact on Sokoto Communication Strategy

Stakeholders in Sokoto State have commended the contributions of USAID State2State in enhancing the state’s communication strategy. The praise came during a two-day State Communications Strategy Implementation Review Meeting, where participants acknowledged the program’s pivotal role in bridging communication gaps between the government and citizens.

Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Ministry of Information and Orientation, expressed appreciation for the initiative’s impact. “We acknowledge the tremendous support provided by USAID State2State. The results have been remarkable. There have been noticeable improvements in capacity building and the quality of information output across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). I urge participants to intensify efforts in disseminating government activities effectively,” he stated.

Dr. Abdulkadir Ladan, the Sokoto State Team Lead for USAID State2State, highlighted the meeting’s objectives, including assessing achievements and addressing implementation challenges. “The expected outcome of this meeting is the review and enhancement of the communication strategy, taking into account the challenges encountered during the implementation of the existing strategies,” he explained.

The event featured an overview of the existing communication strategy and detailed discussions facilitated by USAID State2State Communication Specialist, Israel Odiba. Key sessions included action plan reviews, group discussions addressing critical communication areas, and a gap analysis to identify challenges in communication delivery across MDAs.

Dalhatu Magori, Chairman of the Sokoto State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), opened the second day with a recap of the previous day’s activities. The participants then explored digital platforms and social media, emphasizing inclusive communication approaches to reach diverse audiences effectively.

The meeting concluded with the development of a comprehensive action plan for the next phase of the communication strategy. Participants outlined roles, responsibilities, timelines, and milestones to ensure the successful implementation of the revised strategy.

USAID State2State’s intervention continues to strengthen governance and citizen engagement in Sokoto, fostering transparency and accountability in the state’s information sector.
