Public school teachers in Ibadan are urging parents to ensure their children resume school promptly after the holidays. This follows a low turnout of students as schools begin the second term of the 2024/2025 academic session.
Some teachers, speaking anonymously, noted that it has become common for students to stay home on the first day of resumption. They expect more students to return by Wednesday. One teacher explained that some parents believe there is little activity on the first day, leading to delays.
Mrs. Olamide Owolabi, headmistress of Oluyole Private School, urged students to be punctual as studies resume immediately. She called on parents to continue supporting their children’s education for a brighter future and advocated for government intervention in schools to meet every child’s needs.
Dr. Kayode Adeyemi, National Secretary of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, emphasized the importance of maintaining high academic standards and creating a conducive learning environment. He also highlighted the importance of health and safety for both staff and students.
Adeyemi encouraged students to set academic goals, stay organized, and participate actively in class. He also advised parents to collaborate with schools, support educational policies, and create a supportive home environment to help their children excel.
