Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Thailand’s newly appointed Prime Minister, has officially declared assets exceeding $400 million, which include a vast collection of designer handbags and luxury watches. Paetongtarn, the youngest daughter of telecom tycoon and former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, took office in September and is the fourth member of her family to lead Thailand’s government.
In her declaration to the National Anti-Corruption Commission, Paetongtarn listed assets valued at 13.8 billion baht (approximately $400 million). Among her holdings are 75 luxury watches worth 162 million baht and over 200 designer handbags valued at 76 million baht. Her investments total 11 billion baht, with additional assets in deposits and cash amounting to one billion baht.
Notably, the prime minister also declared properties in London and Japan as part of her wealth portfolio. After accounting for liabilities of nearly five billion baht, her net worth is estimated at 8.9 billion baht ($258 million).
The Shinawatra family has a long history of political and business influence in Thailand. Paetongtarn’s father, Thaksin, made his fortune through his telecommunications company, Shin Corp, and once owned Manchester City football club. Despite his years in exile, the Shinawatra family has remained a prominent political force.
