Former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Tim Sherwood, has criticized Pedro Neto’s goal celebration during Chelsea’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Southampton in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
The win at Stamford Bridge ended Chelsea’s three-game losing streak across all competitions, offering a much-needed boost for Enzo Maresca’s side.
After scoring his goal, Neto celebrated by making a ‘talking’ gesture with his hand—an action believed to be a response to the intense criticism the team has faced following their poor form this season.
However, Sherwood appeared puzzled by the winger’s celebratory reaction.
“I like Neto, but I don’t know what the celebration was all about,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions.
He further emphasized that Chelsea players should focus on delivering results rather than reacting to public scrutiny.
“A few of the Chelsea players did that. It feels like they are listening to the noise, but they have just got to blank it out and win,” Sherwood added.
“People are obviously going to have things to say—you are playing for Chelsea Football Club.
“This is a club that usually wins and has spent billions on new signings, so fans and pundits expect you to be at the top of the league. Just get on with it.”
Chelsea, despite their recent struggles, produced a dominant performance against Southampton, with goals from Pedro Neto, Christopher Nkunku, Levi Colwill, and Marc Cucurella securing a comfortable win.
The victory brings Chelsea closer to the coveted top-four spot, but Sherwood’s comments highlight the pressure and expectations surrounding the London club as they continue their quest to regain consistency and form in the league.
