Eniola Isaac, a 28-year-old Nigerian woman trafficked to Iraq under false promises, is set to return to Nigeria following the intervention of officials from the Nigerian mission in Jordan. Isaac had been subjected to severe abuse, physical assaults, and mistreatment by her employer in Iraq for nearly two years.
The Nigerian mission in Jordan, which oversees Iraq, facilitated her repatriation. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) confirmed the development on Thursday and highlighted the growing concerns over the trafficking of Nigerians to Iraq under deceptive promises of a better life.
NiDCOM also revealed that an investigation is underway into another incident involving a Nigerian who died under suspicious circumstances in Iraq while working as a carer. The Nigerian government has requested an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The commission warned Nigerians about dishonest agents luring young women to Iraq with false promises, often leading to exploitation and dangerous living conditions.
