Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to revive the Keystone XL Pipeline project, urging the company behind it to return and resume construction.
In a post on his Truth Social platform Monday night, Trump criticized the previous administration led by Joe Biden for halting the pipeline’s development. He promised swift approvals and a quick start if the company is willing to restart the project.
“I know they were treated very badly by Sleepy Joe Biden, but the Trump Administration is very different—Easy approvals, almost immediate start! If not them, perhaps another pipeline company. We want the Keystone XL Pipeline built,” Trump said.
The Keystone XL Pipeline, first proposed in 2008, was designed to transport oil from Canada’s Western tar sands to refineries in the United States. However, the Biden administration revoked its permit in 2021, citing environmental concerns and a shift toward clean energy policies.
Trump’s comments signal his continued support for fossil fuel infrastructure and his opposition to the Biden administration’s energy policies.
The former president’s push for the pipeline comes as energy policy remains a central issue ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, where Trump is positioning himself as a champion of American energy independence.
