In a tragic turn of events on Wednesday, two individuals lost their lives in two separate accidents along the Lagos-Ibadan and Lagos-Abeokuta expressways. The first incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where a driver of a minibus, commonly known as “Korope,” collided with a moving truck. The collision, caused by brake failure and excessive speeding, left the driver trapped in the wreckage. Despite the swift response from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), LASAMBUS personnel, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the driver was confirmed dead.
Meanwhile, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a driver going the wrong way along the Ifo area. The pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when the accident occurred. The traffic-violating driver was unmindful of the pedestrian, resulting in a fatal collision. The pedestrian was taken to the Ifo state morgue before the emergency services arrived.
Authorities are working to investigate both accidents, with further action to be taken on the violators involved.
