In a significant political development in Ebonyi State, former governor and current Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term in office. Umahi made the announcement during a Christmas homage visit by the Izzi National Youth Forum at his Umunagu Uburu residence in Ohaozara local government area of the state on Friday.
Umahi expressed his gratitude to the youth leaders, particularly the National President of the forum, Barrister Andrew Chibueze Elom, for the surprise visit, which he described as overwhelming. He acknowledged the support shown by the youths, even during the festive season, despite Nwifuru being the current governor.
Reaffirming his commitment to the governor’s leadership, Umahi spoke of his unwavering faith in Nwifuru, highlighting that the covenant between them and the people of Ebonyi was set to continue seamlessly. “I have been saying it and will keep saying it, there is no better option in Izzi than Governor Nwifuru. I am with him till the end of his term,” Umahi declared, making it clear that no external opposition would disrupt his support for the governor.
In his address, Barrister Elom expressed his gratitude for Umahi’s promise to hand over the state’s governorship to an Izzi man, a promise that was fulfilled with Nwifuru’s election. He also urged Umahi to continue guiding Nwifuru, ensuring that the current governor stays true to the administration’s vision and avoids any pitfalls.
Umahi’s endorsement and continued support for Nwifuru underscore the political alignment between the two, as well as the ongoing unity within the Izzi community.
