Residents of Tafoki village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State have killed three injured bandits after a failed attack on their community.
The bandits, numbering about 100, reportedly stormed the village on Tuesday night on motorcycles, armed with sophisticated weapons, but were repelled by a combined team of Nigerian security forces.
According to reports, the assailants engaged in a fierce gun battle with the security operatives, which forced them to retreat into the forest, leaving behind several wounded members.
A counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, confirmed the incident in a post on his X handle on Wednesday. He revealed that local sources said three of the injured bandits were captured by villagers on the morning of February 26 and subsequently killed.
“Security forces have been alerted to the development, while efforts to track down other fleeing bandits continue,” Makama stated.
The failed attack comes amid growing concerns over the rising wave of banditry in parts of northern Nigeria, where rural communities often bear the brunt of violent raids, kidnappings, and destruction.
Authorities in Katsina State have not yet issued an official statement on the killings, but security operations to flush out criminal elements from the region are ongoing.
Residents of Tafoki village have commended the swift response of the security forces, describing it as a necessary intervention to protect their community from further attacks.
