Residents of Fakai community in Shinkafi Local Government Area, Zamfara State, have called for the establishment of a military base in their area following a successful operation against notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji.
The military operation, conducted under Operation Hadarin Daji, resulted in the killing of Turji’s son and several of his foot soldiers. Local leader, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, expressed concerns over potential reprisals, urging the Nigerian Army to set up a permanent military presence in the area to prevent further attacks by Turji and his associates.
Shinkafi commended the military for dismantling key hideouts and neutralizing several of Turji’s fighters, but emphasized the need for continued vigilance. He stated that without a strong military presence, Turji might regroup and intensify attacks on the region.
In a related development, the Olukere of Odo Oja Ikere Ekiti, Oba Ayodele Obasoyin, praised the Nigerian Army for the establishment of a new military base in Ikere Ekiti, highlighting its importance in maintaining peace and security in the state.
